St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church

This projecting canopy serves as a porte cochere for the community services areas of a large Lutheran church in York, Pennsylvania. More than one hundred years old, the church architecture conforms to the norms of its time – rectilinear, formal, and classical in its inspiration. As such, the gentle arc of glulam canopy is certainly unexpected, and yet it seems to enhance rather than detract from the church’s traditional architectural aesthetic.
