Kops

This is one of the more unusual projects we’ve undertaken in recent years. It’s a postmodern kitchen and outdoor addition to a large contemporary home in an upscale residential neighborhood outside Allentown, Pennsylvania. The radically simplified geometry contrasts markedly with the more predictable forms of the original house. Juxtapositions of materials – cedar wood siding, naturally finished Douglas fir timbers, stucco, and stone hardscaping – soften and enrich the strong volumetric statement. The interior ceiling beams are continuous with the exterior timbers, tying the whole together in a unified structure. This project earned the architect John Hubert the Philadelphia Magazine Home & Garden Dream Kitchen/Contemporary award in 2007.
