For her new home the client wanted a great room and entry timber-framed with recycled timbers which were not to be resurfaced. We located a small Pennsylvania barn which had just recently come on the market. The timbers were oak. The moldings in the great room and in the adjacent areas were fashioned from face cuts from some of the extra timbers. Even the hay loft ladders were salvaged and re-used in the front of the great room to help demarcate the entry and foyer areas.

The home is decorated with southeast Asian antiques, a juxtaposition of design sensibilities — rustic barn with Asian – that might seem a little odd at first. We think it works beautifully, though!
