This staggered lower chord kingpost truss system is a kitchen and breakfast area addition to an historic Maryland stone farm house, accessible through a stone archway that was part of the original structure. There was an old stone cistern located smack in the middle of the spot where the addition was to go, and rather than filling it in, the owners incorporated it into the new kitchen creating a dramatically lit terrarium right under foot. The semicircular glass floor can be seen right beside the island. The floor boards are from reclaimed barn timbers.
