The rolling hills outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the setting for this hybrid timber frame. Inside the house the great room, kitchen/breakfast area and an adjacent sunroom are timber framed. The great room trusses have a split curved chord with an angular pendant on the kingpost. There are not common rafters or purlins, so the Douglas fir roof boards are thicker than our usual 3/4″ to span between the trusses. The line of the great room trusses carries out onto a porch with a commanding panoramic view of the surrounding hills.
On the outside, there is a timber framed front porch as well as heavy timber accents including a trellis-like overhang at the garage and decorative gable brackets and trusses.
